1. Make the offer clear on the first screen
Ask someone unfamiliar with your business to read the homepage. Can they explain what you sell, who it is for and what to do next? Replace vague claims with a specific service or product description. For example, “Business website development and SEO help” gives visitors more context than “We take your business to the next level.”
2. Check the site on a phone
Open the site on a small screen. Read the headings and helper text, use the navigation and complete the main form. Check for sideways scrolling, overlapping controls and links that are difficult to tap. Desktop screenshots do not establish that the mobile experience works.
3. Test the actual enquiry path
Check the email, phone or WhatsApp link and the contact form's success and error states. Submit a clearly labelled test enquiry only to your own business, and confirm it reaches you. A form that displays a success message without delivering the enquiry can lose the visitor you worked to attract.
4. Give each real service a useful page
Explain who the service helps, the problem it addresses, what information you need and how the work is scoped. Include real examples or evidence when you have them. If development and SEO are separate services, make the distinction understandable. Avoid dozens of nearly identical location pages for markets you do not actually serve.
5. Write a title that matches the page
Review the title shown in the browser tab and the search description for each important page. They should describe that page's actual offer or answer. A service page and a practical checklist have different purposes and should not all use the same generic title.
6. Connect related pages with clear links
Link a service page to its relevant guide, pricing or enquiry information. Use descriptive link text, such as “website development and SEO services”, so readers know what they will find. Check that every important public page is reachable from your navigation or another relevant page.
7. Keep your business details accurate
Use a consistent trading name, owner identity and contact information. Explain the areas you genuinely serve. Publish case studies, qualifications and customer reviews only when they are real and you can support them. A clear answer about scope is more useful than an unsupported promise.
8. Check access, indexing and preferred URLs
Open each important public URL and confirm it loads correctly. Check the HTTPS address, preferred URL and sitemap. In Google Search Console, inspect the homepage and service pages to see whether Google can access them and whether they are indexed. A successful sitemap submission means the sitemap was read; it does not establish that every page is indexed.
9. Measure loading speed without confusing it with rankings
Run PageSpeed Insights on mobile and desktop. Look at loading time, responsiveness and layout movement, then investigate meaningful problems. Keep useful functionality and compare results over time. A perfect lab score does not establish search rankings, accessibility for every user or enquiry quality.
10. Record impressions, clicks and enquiries separately
Use Search Console to record search impressions, clicks and the queries or pages receiving them. Keep a separate record of genuine enquiries. If pages are not indexed, investigate discovery and access. If impressions rise but clicks remain low, check whether the page title and content answer the searches shown. If clicks arrive but enquiries do not, review the offer and contact path.
Google's SEO Starter Guide recommends useful content and accessible pages. Allow time for search changes to be processed; neither a checklist nor a sitemap guarantees traffic.
